Mean, Median, Mode Calculator

Find the mean, median, mode, and range of a list of numbers, with the steps shown.

Mean, Median, Mode & Range Calculator

Mean: 6.2 · Median: 7 · Mode: 7 · Range: 6 5 values, sum 31. Sorted: 3, 5, 7, 7, 9. Mode is the most frequent value (7); range = 9 − 3 = 6.

What This Calculator Does

Enter a list of numbers and the tool gives the mean (average), the median (middle value), the mode (most frequent value), and the range, with the steps shown.

The Formulas

mean = sum of the values / how many values
median = the middle value of the sorted list
(the average of the two middle values if the count is even)
mode = the value (or values) that appear most often
range = largest value - smallest value

How to Use It

  1. Type your numbers separated by commas (spaces also work).
  2. Read the mean, median, mode, and range, plus the sorted list in the steps.

Common Uses

  • Summarising test scores or survey results.
  • School statistics practice.
  • Quickly checking the average and spread of a data set.

FAQ

How do you find the mean, median, and mode?

The mean is the sum divided by how many numbers there are. The median is the middle value once the numbers are sorted (the average of the two middle ones if the count is even). The mode is the value that appears most often.

What is the range?

The range is the largest value minus the smallest. For 3, 5, 7, 7, 9 the range is 9 − 3 = 6.

What if there is no mode?

If every number appears the same number of times (for example, all different), there is no mode. The tool shows “none” in that case.

Can there be more than one mode?

Yes. If two or more values tie for the most frequent, the set is multimodal and the tool lists all of them.
