3.14159 rounded to the nearest hundredth = 3.14 3.14159 rounds to 3.14 at the nearest hundredth (rounding half up).

What This Rounding Calculator Does

Rounding swaps an exact number for a simpler nearby one - handy when you do not need every digit. The rule is to look at the next digit after the place you are keeping: if it is 5 or more, round up; if it is 4 or less, round down. So 3.7 rounds to 4, and 3.2 rounds to 3.

You can round to a whole number, to a decimal place (tenth, hundredth, thousandth), or to a bigger place (ten, hundred, thousand). The tool rounds to whichever place you choose.

How Rounding Works

Look at the digit just after the rounding place. If it is 5 or more, round up; if it is less than 5, round down (round half up).

How to Use It

  1. Enter the number.
  2. Choose what to round to.
  3. Read the rounded value.

FAQ

How do you round to the nearest hundredth?

Keep two decimal places and look at the third. If it is 5 or more, round the second decimal up. For 3.14159, the third decimal is 1, so it stays 3.14.

What does “round half up” mean?

When the deciding digit is exactly 5, the number rounds up. For example, 2.5 rounds to 3.

How do you round to the nearest ten or hundred?

Look at the digit in the next-smaller place. 1284 to the nearest hundred is 1300 (the tens digit is 8, so round up); to the nearest thousand it is 1000.
