Unit Price Calculator
What This Unit Price Calculator Does
Enter the price and quantity for two items and the tool shows the price per unit for each, then tells you which is the better value. Fill in just one item to get a single unit price.
Unit Price Formula
unit price = price / quantity
Compare the two unit prices — the lower one is the better value, as long as both quantities use the same unit.
How to Use It
- Enter Item A’s price and quantity.
- Enter Item B’s price and quantity.
- Read which item is cheaper per unit, and by how much.
Worked Examples
| Item | Price | Quantity | Per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4 | 6 | 0.6667 |
| B | 6 | 10 | 0.6 |
Item B is the better value at 0.6 per unit. Another case: 3 for 500 g is 0.006 per gram,
while 5 for 1000 g is 0.005 per gram — the larger pack wins here.
Common Uses
- Comparing grocery pack sizes.
- Checking whether a “bulk” deal is actually cheaper.
- Comparing price per item, per gram, or per litre.
FAQ
How do you calculate unit price?
Divide the price by the quantity. For 4 over 6 units: 4 / 6 = 0.6667 per unit.
How do I tell which is the better value?
Work out the price per unit for each item and pick the lower one. Make sure both quantities use the same unit (both in grams, both a count, and so on).
What counts as a “unit”?
Whatever the quantity is measured in — items, grams, ounces, or litres. Just keep the unit the same for both items being compared.
Does a bigger pack always cost less per unit?
Often, but not always. Comparing unit prices is the only reliable way to tell.
