A Few Worked Examples

Problem 1: in 352, the 5 sits in the tens place, so its value is $50$.

Problem 8: 1,309 in expanded form is $1{,}000 + 300 + 9$ (there are no tens).

Problem 20: the smallest 3-digit number from 5, 0, 3 cannot start with 0, so it is $305$.
